Hello, and welcome to the Scooby Zone, the podcast where the first step is a real doozy. Yep, definitely a doozy. As we watch a bit of Scooby-Doo Media. I'm Rob. And I'm Katie. And today we'll be watching the episode Nowhere to Hide. Episode 18 of Scooby-Doo Where Are You.
SPEAKER_01Man.
SPEAKER_00And the start of season two of Scooby-Doo Where Are You.
SPEAKER_01Oh, boy. Oh. That means we're going to get a different intro.
SPEAKER_00Different intro. I believe this is when Heather North becomes the voice of Daphne.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_00You know, musical chase numbers.
SPEAKER_01Definitely. Yeah, we've been looking forward to those guys. That would be an extra thing we're going to do.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_01We definitely need that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. You guys can find us on Facebook at the Scooby Zone. You know, email us at ScoobyZonepodcast at gmail.com.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00We'd love to hear from you guys.
SPEAKER_01We would, most definitely.
SPEAKER_00You know, if you are listening to us on YouTube, eventually we'll start having more stuff put up there.
SPEAKER_01Mm-hmm. More. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00You know. More. Not just the episodes of the podcast where we're hoping to get more technical things done. Hoping to, yes. Um. But we'll let you know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we'll get back to you on that one, guys. Don't worry about it. We'll get back to you.
SPEAKER_00Alright, so nowhere to hide. Nowhere to hide. Oh man.
SPEAKER_01How's that gonna go?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. You know, could just about be any monster, really, couldn't it?
SPEAKER_01No, it could be.
SPEAKER_00You know, especially when they spell hide H Y D.
SPEAKER_01So how they spell it, that makes it even more interesting. Okay. Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_00Yes. I think there's not really much to talk about here right now.
SPEAKER_01I think so. Definitely agree on that one.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So we'll we're gonna go ahead and split up, look for some clues, watch the episode. You can too.
SPEAKER_01Definitely.
SPEAKER_00You know, watch it. I believe they're still all up on Tubi right now, all of Scooby Doo Where Are You. Yep. Otherwise, you know, say it all the time.
SPEAKER_01Physical media.
SPEAKER_00Yep, DVD and Blu-rays, you know, are still available.
SPEAKER_01And VHS if you still have a VHS player.
SPEAKER_00Yep. Yes, that is still an option.
SPEAKER_01That is still definitely an option.
SPEAKER_00So, you know, we're gonna split up and we will be right back. That was nowhere to hide. And I think there were lots of places where they could have hid. There were a lot of places and there was some hiding in the van.
SPEAKER_01Hiding in the van, hiding in the closet.
SPEAKER_00I mean there was lots of places to hide.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah, guys, we're back in case you didn't guess. Someone didn't say something at the beginning. But I figured I'd mention that. We're back, guys.
SPEAKER_00Want to keep them on their toes.
SPEAKER_01Oh, right.
SPEAKER_00I think they're smart enough to realize things.
SPEAKER_01I hope they're smart.
SPEAKER_00Guys, if you're not smart enough to realize this, like send us an angry email yelling at us for not calling you smart.
SPEAKER_01Right? Yeah, let's do that.
SPEAKER_00You know, we will rage bait you into contacting us somehow.
SPEAKER_01Oh boy, yep, exactly. Alright.
SPEAKER_00So one thing I forgot about before we started the episode. Uh-huh. The video game. Scooby-Doo's classic creep capers. The entirety of the Game Boy Color version of that game is just this episode.
SPEAKER_01Really?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Oh wow. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Uh granted there's more in the video game that's not here in the episode. But yeah, the entire premise of that video game is the mystery with Mr. Hyde.
SPEAKER_01Oh wow. I didn't remember that when I had the game.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I had put a lot of hours into that game. Which was easy because it just used like a password system to save progress.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00But yeah, it was fun because like you could switch between the different characters. And like at different points, like you would lock off like certain characters, or you couldn't use them. Or you could, but like they were literally confined to like just a specific area. Because like I think there's a point where Fred's locked in a cell. So you can still switch to Fred, but he can't go anywhere.
SPEAKER_01Because he's stuck in the Yeah. Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_00And like there's a whole room of cheese that you had to like break a robot to get like a sharp piece of metal or glass so you could cut the cheese and then eat it to Shaggy.
SPEAKER_01Oh jeez. Shaggy would just eat the whole thing. Why would he want to just cut a piece off?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because if he didn't cut it up, he probably would have left a couple of Gorgonzolas.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay, sure.
SPEAKER_00Zombie Island reference. Yeah, yeah. Alright. Now let's get to the episode properly.
SPEAKER_01Let's do it.
SPEAKER_00We have kind of a new intro.
SPEAKER_01We do have a new intro.
SPEAKER_00I mean we have new visuals, which you know can always see those on you. Like it's just new clips from different bits of episodes or new things entirely. Yep. And the theme song is only slightly different. It's got more of like British invasion style to it. Which again makes sense, you know. This would have been 1970 now.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Coming off the heels of the late 60s British invasion.
SPEAKER_01True. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Which I'm sure was you know still popular in full swing. Right. Yep. Alright. After our new old intro. New old intro, yep. You know, we panned through a case of jewelry. Jewelry. Where there's one ruby necklace that gets stolen by Mr.
SPEAKER_01Hyde himself.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. You know, green face, green clothes.
SPEAKER_01Green hands.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01All green. Yeah, I've noticed. Some of them are a lot of green. That's weird.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Why do they make them that like you know? You know, he seals the necklace, he scales down the building where a cop sees him, like, hey, that's the ghost of Hyde.
SPEAKER_01How does he get down? How is he able to? Are we gonna figure that out later?
SPEAKER_00Probably.
SPEAKER_01Okay. All right. He's a ghost. He's a ghost. Well, he's not gonna he just need to climb down.
SPEAKER_00Why the cop didn't try to stop him? I don't know. Didn't he whistle at him? I don't think he whistled. Oh.
SPEAKER_01Whatever.
SPEAKER_00But you think the cop would have some sort of like he'd chase him or go after him.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Anyways, you know, we then cut to a familiar-looking van at a familiar-looking malt shop.
SPEAKER_01Ooh, I wonder what that could be.
SPEAKER_00And the ghost of Hyde goes into the back of the mystery machine.
SPEAKER_01He's gonna hide in the mystery machine?
SPEAKER_00I'm more concerned. Like, Fred, you keep the mystery machine unlocked.
SPEAKER_01That is true. That would be more.
SPEAKER_00I think I know it's like the late 60s, early 70s, but like why would you leave your car? Yeah. I think it was a lot easier to kind of like hijack cars then.
SPEAKER_01Right. Yeah, because they're not as protected. They're not as they're easier to get into back then than they are now.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. But nope, mystery ink are at the malt shop. They just came from a magic show at the high school. Yep. And they're celebrating with double fudge Sundays.
SPEAKER_01Ooh, yum.
SPEAKER_00With a pickle.
unknownWhy?
SPEAKER_00Well, only one of them has a pickle.
SPEAKER_01Only one of them has a pickle.
SPEAKER_00And that's Shaggy's.
SPEAKER_01That's Shaggy.
SPEAKER_00Where Scooby decides to show him a magic trick.
SPEAKER_01Magic trick.
SPEAKER_00He puts napkin over his Sunday and Shaggy's Sunday.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00Removes Shaggy's napkin.
SPEAKER_01Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_00His ice cream's gone.
SPEAKER_01What happened?
SPEAKER_00It's on Scooby's ice cream.
SPEAKER_01With the pickle?
SPEAKER_00With the pickle. With the pickle. And Scooby eats it. And it's called the vanishing ice cream trick.
SPEAKER_01Well, it's not gonna go well next time, is it?
SPEAKER_00No, because then Shaggy will do a vanishing Scooby trick.
SPEAKER_01And Shaggy's an expert in this, people. He'll make Scooby disappear.
SPEAKER_00They leave the malt shop and are driving home. Because Shaggy wants to catch the early late show.
SPEAKER_01On TV.
SPEAKER_00Yep. This week. It's I was a teenage blob.
SPEAKER_01Apparently, Velma saw that. Boy, was it corny.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. But the shortcut Fred is taking is kind of chilly. Cause the heater's broken in the mystery machine.
SPEAKER_01When isn't something broken in the mystery machine? You seem to have a lot of problems with the mystery machine.
SPEAKER_00At least this is a problem they can drive with.
SPEAKER_01Right. It's not like it's snowing outside or but like really like really hot outside.
SPEAKER_00How can Well, he probably needs like a new thing for the fan motor or something.
SPEAKER_01Something. Whatever.
SPEAKER_00Because yeah, usually with the car heater, like it's just blowing in the air from the engine. Right. But you know, they ask Scooby to fetch the blanket from the back. Yep. He lifts it up, finds the ghost of Hyde.
SPEAKER_01What?
SPEAKER_00Excuses himself, gives the blanket back to Hyde. Tries to tell everyone else what's going on. Yep. Where they finally see Mr. Hyde. Yep. And they run out of the mystery machine. A ghost. Mr. Hyde gets out and runs into the marsh.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00And they decide they're gonna follow him to a spooky house in the marsh.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00They instead of going to the front door, they go to the back door.
SPEAKER_01Why won't you?
SPEAKER_00Which it's unlocked.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00But then they fall down a trapdoor that falls open when the back door is opened. Luckily they land on a mattress that was there.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, luckily that's fair.
SPEAKER_00But they end up in a mad science lab.
SPEAKER_01Mad scientists rub this room?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Where they then meet Dr. Jekyll. Dr. Jekyll.
SPEAKER_01Alright.
SPEAKER_00So, yeah, guys, I guess we're doing this. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
SPEAKER_01I guess that's who this is about.
SPEAKER_00I have no idea who the ghost is gonna be.
SPEAKER_01I have no idea. Maybe it's red herring.
SPEAKER_00The butler always does it.
SPEAKER_01The butler. We don't have a butler. We have a maid. Do you think the maid did it then?
SPEAKER_00Yes, we'll find out.
SPEAKER_01I guess so.
SPEAKER_00You know, he tells them that, you know, there's a possibility he may be the ghost of Hyde. That he was you know, that he's related to the first Dr. Jekyll. Who was the first Mr. Hyde. And now he thinks that he's been reincarnated as the ghost of Hyde.
SPEAKER_01I mean, it does run in the family, so you probably have the same DNA, so the genes are probably what happened.
SPEAKER_00Yep. That he was working on a rejuvenating formula that you'd only have to take once in your life.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00He tests it on himself, and the room starts spinning.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00And when he woke up, there was mud on his shoes.
SPEAKER_01Oh no, not mud on his shoes.
SPEAKER_00And the same thing happened tonight.
SPEAKER_01Uh-oh.
SPEAKER_00Except this time the mud on his shoes is dry.
SPEAKER_01How would it be?
SPEAKER_00Which makes no sense if he was just out in the marsh.
SPEAKER_01Right. Unless he put on different shoes that were money. That maybe the one had its first problem. Maybe then that's where he wearing.
SPEAKER_00Right. So, you know, they get permission to look around. Shaggy and Scooby start in the attic.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00Which turns out to be just to be a storeroom for spider webs.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00They're looking around, they find a chest.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00And they open it up, and inside, bats.
SPEAKER_01Bats.
SPEAKER_00But under the bats, it's costumes galore. It's almost like somebody used to be in show business.
SPEAKER_01Who could that have been? Who would have been?
SPEAKER_00I don't know. Show business, circuses.
SPEAKER_01Who knows what this type of movie is?
SPEAKER_00Um a scary-looking ape mask falls on Scooby's head as Shaggy's digging through the chest. Yep. Sh you know, Scooby decides he's gonna give Shaggy a scare. Yep. In which we get the fun little voice clip of Zoink. Zoink. Not Zoink's, just one Zoink. Just Zoink.
SPEAKER_01Must have scared him out being gonna say the right thing.
SPEAKER_00But you know, tells him to quit clowning around.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00And all that's missing is a scary shadow.
SPEAKER_01Well, it ain't missing anymore.
SPEAKER_00No.
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_00They see a scary shadow. They try to escape. Scooby runs to a door, opens it, slightly smaller door.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00Opens that one. Another slightly smaller door. Yep. And we keep going until we get to a door on a mouse hole. Scooby opens that and out comes a mouse, kinda to yell at him.
SPEAKER_01Yep, well, of course. You'd be unhappy too if someone.
SPEAKER_00Scooby's fighting a mouse now.
SPEAKER_01He's fighting a mouse.
SPEAKER_00Scooby can't just get along with animals. I don't think that's gonna be a possibility. Yeah. I don't think so. Well, turns out that the scary shadow was cast by hell the housekeeper Helga.
SPEAKER_01Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_00Who was up there dusting spiderwebs.
SPEAKER_01How'd it look like before she cleaned it?
SPEAKER_00I don't know. But you know, she cleaned it and there are still spider webs.
SPEAKER_01There's still dust up there, too.
SPEAKER_00So it's like furnished in early Halloween.
SPEAKER_01Right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. We cut then to Fred and the girls searching through the parlor, living room. Room with a fireplace. Yep, room with a fireplace, yep. In which Fred is shifting through ashes in the fireplace and finds a newspaper clipping.
SPEAKER_01Newspaper clipping.
SPEAKER_00That talks about Helga the Great, who was going to do her. What was it? Human. Human Fly Act.
SPEAKER_01Human Fly Act, yep.
SPEAKER_00You know, which is a fancy circus act involving tall buildings.
SPEAKER_01Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_00We then cut back to Shaggy and Scooby, this time in the library. In which, you know, Shaggy is now looking at books on the bookshelf. In fact, there are some pretty interesting books on this bookshelf.
SPEAKER_01I know, there is, isn't there?
SPEAKER_00On one shelf we see books titled Snakes, Plastic Surgery, Ogres, Medicine Zero. Another shelf, we see Lizards.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00Plato. Yep. Marquis D. Snide.
SPEAKER_01Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_00Biology. Two that we can't quite make out.
SPEAKER_01Nope.
SPEAKER_00One where we get the word human, but then we can't make out the rest of it. Thank you, Shaggy.
SPEAKER_01Right. Yeah. Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_00And then chemistry.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00Dracula Manual.
SPEAKER_01Because we need that apparently.
SPEAKER_00101 Ghosts and Ghouls. Yep. Vipers. Yep. History of Makeup.
SPEAKER_01Why would he need that?
SPEAKER_00Origin of Species.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00Bats. And Dictionary.
SPEAKER_01Why the hell? Well, if we have the chemistry book too. Why would we need a dictionary?
SPEAKER_00You know, some of those I can understand, you know, being the house of a scientist.
SPEAKER_01True.
SPEAKER_00But, you know, ones like History of Makeup.
SPEAKER_01Why would he need a history of makeup?
SPEAKER_00That's kind of an interesting book.
SPEAKER_01It is, isn't it?
SPEAKER_00Well, Shaggy pulls out 101 ghosts and ghouls. Yep. And behind book number one, the Ghost of Hide.
SPEAKER_01The Ghost of Hide.
SPEAKER_00You know, they run off. Turns out that the bookcase had a secret room behind it. Because the bookcase swings out. Right. Scooby and Shaggy hide in a TV set. Yep. So we get some costumes for the Cowardly Costume Compendium.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00First, when Hyde turns on the TV, Shaggy comes up as Uncle Happy Time the Clown. Yep. Introducing Scooby as Kane of the Wild Blue Yonder.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00Doesn't want to watch it. I don't blame you. There's a clown involved. Changes the channel.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00In which we get Running Dog. Yeah. Who's supposed to sign the treaty, otherwise, they'll take back the trinket and beads.
SPEAKER_01Uh-uh.
SPEAKER_00Nope. And then Running Dog, who is Scooby, calls Shaggy Indian Giver.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00And Shaggy pokes Mr. Hyde when pointing.
SPEAKER_01Through the TV.
SPEAKER_00Yep. So yeah, that stopped fooling Mr. Hyde.
SPEAKER_01I guess it did.
SPEAKER_00You know, so they run off, end up sliding down a railing and knocking Velma down a laundry chute.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00In which, you know, it's a perfect three-point landing.
SPEAKER_01Of course it is.
SPEAKER_00And then an ironing board comes down. So it's a four-point landing.
SPEAKER_01It's a four-point landing.
SPEAKER_00In which we find somebody. We don't know who.
SPEAKER_01We don't know.
SPEAKER_00But they were ironing a shirt with muddy shoes and a feather duster.
SPEAKER_01No, they were hiding a pair of muddy shoes.
SPEAKER_00That makes those like you use an ironing board for irony, not hiding.
SPEAKER_01Well, I don't know. That's what that's what our smart gal thinks is what happened.
SPEAKER_00I think we learned in this episode Velma's not as smart as she thinks she is.
SPEAKER_01Velma's not as smart yet, right? Yeah, definitely learned that one pretty quick.
SPEAKER_00Shea mentions that that's a feather duster. Helga was using to clean spider webs.
SPEAKER_01She must have cleaned the attic pretty quick if she gotta put it down there.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Well, she could have dropped it down the close chute.
SPEAKER_01Accidentally? I don't need this anymore. Here we go.
SPEAKER_00You know, which Fred and Daphne coming through the door. They must have found the stairs to the basement.
SPEAKER_01They must have found it somewhere.
SPEAKER_00And you know, Velma mentions that they she thinks they'll find more clues in Helga's room.
SPEAKER_01Why would Helga's room matter?
SPEAKER_00Who knows?
SPEAKER_01We'll find that out about it.
SPEAKER_00Shaggy doesn't want to go in, so he's gonna expertly guard the fruit bowl.
SPEAKER_01Of course. What else would you do? I'm surprised Scooby didn't stay there and guard it with him.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01He was going, he got all excited, and then he's like, Come on, Scoob. And I know I'm staying.
SPEAKER_00So while they're in Helga's room, they find a can of phosphorus paint and knockout drops. Why why would you need the so it's kind of pointing all the clues are pointing towards one person.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00And when Shaggy comes in, like, hey, you'll never guess what I found in the fruit bowl.
SPEAKER_01Wonder what he's gonna do.
SPEAKER_00Where he's suddenly grabbed by the ghost of Hyde.
SPEAKER_01What? The ghost is gonna grab him.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_01Wow.
SPEAKER_00Grab Shaggy.
SPEAKER_01Grab Shaggy. Yep.
SPEAKER_00They are now worried because Shaggy's gone.
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_00And we find him strapped to a gurney.
SPEAKER_01Like Scooby was in a previous episode. Now it's flip-flopped.
SPEAKER_00Yep. Because, you know, the ghost of height is gonna turn him into a frog.
SPEAKER_01What? Because he wants to croak him. He wants to croak me.
SPEAKER_00And all of a sudden, Scooby bursts in.
SPEAKER_01Reggie.
SPEAKER_00And we get our first musical number of season two and of Scooby-Doo. Where are you?
SPEAKER_01Yep, gotta love him.
SPEAKER_00Recipe for my love.
SPEAKER_01Recipe for my love. Yep. Oh man. I love that.
SPEAKER_00There's some hijinks where Hyde is trying to grab Scooby.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00But Scooby dodges, gets a hold of the table, the gurney that Shaggy's on.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00And starts pushing Shaggy out of the room.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00Hides in the doorway. So they crash into it. So now Scooby's rolling on the cart that Shaggy's strapped to, hides on the other side.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00You know, they roll past Fred and the girls.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Fred.
SPEAKER_00You know.
SPEAKER_01They make themselves sink into the into a couple of doors.
SPEAKER_00You know, into one door, out another.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00Down the hallway through the doors. Yep. You know, so I believe this might be our first real instance of the hallway doors.
SPEAKER_01It might be. Yep.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we really should have been paying more attention to that in previous episodes.
SPEAKER_01I don't know if there was a lot of things. But I don't it's not as mint, it's not as clearly shown as it is in the old in these newer episodes. I don't know why.
SPEAKER_00The doors seems to be more of like a trope of like When they're in like a mansion, like an actual building.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00Not like a castle or anything. Right, it seems like when they're in like a and you know, I think this might also be like the first time like they're in an actual like house.
SPEAKER_01I think so too. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I mean I know there's Night of Fright is No Delight.
SPEAKER_01Right, but that one didn't really.
SPEAKER_00But that one we know we got the doors in Scooby Natural, but not Right, but not in the actual episode itself.
SPEAKER_01So they did a little, you know, nice little thing for Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But as they're going through doors, Shaggy becomes unstrapped to the Gurney and Hyde is now strapped to the Gurney.
SPEAKER_01Right, I don't understand how that happened.
SPEAKER_00You know, they end up rolling into a closet.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00They close the door and put a sign on saying not to open until Christmas.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00The ghost doesn't listen and comes out of the closet.
SPEAKER_01The ghost comes out of the closet.
SPEAKER_00Wonderful. But at the same time, Shaggy and Scooby are rafting on what I'm just gonna call a crocagator.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00I can't tell if it's supposed to be a crocodile, an alligator. Yeah. So I think crocogator is a fitting term.
SPEAKER_01I think so too. I think that'll work.
SPEAKER_00You know, they find out that it's, you know, a living prehistoric thing that's gonna eat them.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00And so now the poles they were using to push their quote-unquote raft, Shaggy's now using a stilts.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00And well, the crocodiles catching up to him. Boy, do I wish I had a Scooby Snack.
SPEAKER_01Enter Scooby somehow with the box of Scooby- Oh a box of open Scooby Snacks.
SPEAKER_00Yep. So we figure he gives Shaggy about like half a box of Scooby Snacks. Yep. Which, you know, supercharges Shaggy to outrun the crocagator, running straight into the house wall, leaving a Shaggy-sized hole.
SPEAKER_01Whoops. Without a Scooby with it. I don't know how.
SPEAKER_00Yep. You know, in the same room where the rest of mystery goes, too.
SPEAKER_01Somehow they ran them decide to be there too.
SPEAKER_00You know, pretty convenient.
SPEAKER_01Yep, definitely.
SPEAKER_00You know, thank goodness they're safe.
SPEAKER_01Thank Scooby, they're safe.
SPEAKER_00Want to know why the ghost was so interested in Shaggy. And it's because he found suction cups in the fruit bowl.
SPEAKER_01Why would there be suction cups in the fruit bowl?
SPEAKER_00I don't know. But they're about ready to wrap up this mystery because the ghost is a 24 karat phony.
SPEAKER_01Definitely is. Gotta find out who it is now.
SPEAKER_00So, you know, they decide to do what Shaggy calls the trick trap.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, the trick trap. Nice name.
SPEAKER_00Yep. Shaggy and Scooby will go. They get the ghost's attention.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00They run into another room behind some curtains. Lure the ghost over to said curtains.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00Ghost opens it. And inside the ghost of Hyde.
SPEAKER_01What?
unknownYep.
SPEAKER_01Maybe it's a trick mirror.
SPEAKER_00It scares the ghost enough he runs into a different room.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00Where in the closet of that room is the ghost of Hyde.
SPEAKER_01What? How is this?
SPEAKER_00The ghost of Hyde is in all these closets, I guess. You know, he goes and closes that door. Yep. When all of a sudden, who comes up and taps him on the shoulder?
SPEAKER_01Another Mr. Hyde?
SPEAKER_00A midget ghost of Hyde.
SPEAKER_01A midget ghost. I wonder who that could be.
SPEAKER_00You know, taps on the shoulder, says, boo. Ghost, you know, the ghost of hide then runs to the back door.
SPEAKER_01Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_00But also the trapdoor. So when he steps outside the back door, because the trapdoor has been activated. Yep. Pretty much. He falls down onto the mattress where Shaggy and Scooby roll him up.
SPEAKER_01So he's caught. We have the ghost.
SPEAKER_00Yep, and as Velma points out, you know, it should be Helga, the housemaid.
SPEAKER_01Why would it be Helga?
SPEAKER_00Because it's really Dr. Jekyll.
unknownWhat?
SPEAKER_00You guys, Velma was wrong.
SPEAKER_01How could Velma be wrong? She's so apparently she's so smart. It doesn't make any sense.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So yeah, unsurprisingly, Dr. Jekyll is Mr. Hyde.
SPEAKER_01Hmm I would have never seen that coming.
SPEAKER_00No. Um pretty much, you know, told them the phony story about the formula, planted all these fake clues to make it seem like Helga was the ghost. Right. But the real clue was the suction cups.
SPEAKER_01Suction cups.
SPEAKER_00Which he used to scale the buildings.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00You know, if Helga really was the ghost, she would not have needed them because of being an ex-circus star.
SPEAKER_01Right, she would have needed them. Oh, so that's what the chest was in the attic. Probably. Stuff, probably. Most like yeah. Her stuff or other people's stuff that was put in there somehow.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, probably stuff from her circus days.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00You know, sh Scooby gives a demonstration of the suction cups and does a pretty good Spider-Man imitation.
SPEAKER_01I think he does.
SPEAKER_00You know, he's hanging off the ceiling and then he falls to just then be held up by his tail.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And that'll do it.
SPEAKER_00And you know, that's where we decide to end this week's episode.
SPEAKER_01Yay.
SPEAKER_00And boy, what an episode it is.
SPEAKER_01It definitely was an episode, I agree.
SPEAKER_00So going to the fun Scooby Snack intake.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00You know, we were currently sitting at was one hero sandwich. Yep. One shady snack.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00And what was 147 Scooby Snacks.
SPEAKER_01Which now is.
SPEAKER_00Now become, because we figured half a box of Scooby Snacks this episode, and we figured one box is probably roughly 80 snacks.
SPEAKER_0180 snacks. Yep.
SPEAKER_00So that should give us now a total of 187 Scooby Snacks.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00In which we're now averaging about 10 snacks per episode.
SPEAKER_01Alright.
SPEAKER_00You know. Nice, kind of solid.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00Now, where should we start first? The manifest of monsters or the trap list.
SPEAKER_01Ooh, let's do a trapless because we have a new trap to add.
SPEAKER_00We do have a new trap to add. Are you saying we don't have a new monster to add?
SPEAKER_01Well, we have a new monster too, about the trap, but we kind of found a point of the trap trap. Yes, I.
SPEAKER_00Alright. So going to the Fred Jones failure files.
SPEAKER_01Yep, we're in.
SPEAKER_00Alright. At 19, we have the tapestry.
SPEAKER_01Tapestry.
SPEAKER_00At 18, we've got the slide. Yep. 17, we've got instant suds. Instant suds. 16, we have the dog stampede. Yep. 15, we have the biplane. The biplane. 14 we have Scooby Strikes Back.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_0013, we've got the Fake Train.
SPEAKER_01The fake train. Yep.
SPEAKER_0012 we have the Drum and Tuba.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_0011, we've got the Wind Tunnel.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00At 10, we've got the Crate and Magnet.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_009 we have the Mirror.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_008. We've got the Giant Snowball.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_007. We've got the Lawnmower Basketball. 6, we've got the always fun automatic pogo stick.
SPEAKER_01Gotta love that.
SPEAKER_005. We've got the chandelier. Yep. 4. We have the special effects nonsense.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_002, we've got the Betcher Mouse Trap.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00Or three, we've got the Better Mouse Trap. Two, we've got the flying washing machine.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00And the best trap so far is still the money pit.
SPEAKER_01The money pit. Alright.
SPEAKER_00So, where would we put the trick trap?
SPEAKER_01I mean, the trick trap goes without a hitch. I mean, it's actually a pretty good.
SPEAKER_00I mean, that itself almost lands it within like the top five.
SPEAKER_01I would say probably in the top five, but I don't know where.
SPEAKER_00I mean, it's because it's like it's right on almost like right on with special effects. Yeah, because it's like how it like I I'd say this one's better than special effects.
SPEAKER_01I would think so too.
SPEAKER_00Because like this utilized everyone.
SPEAKER_01Right. Everyone was in, everyone played their part. But is it better than the nonsense of better mouse trap, though? And I know we don't really so much care for the episode, but it held a really good trap that kept it up. Because I don't know if I think it's the complexity of the better mouse trap is just so unhinged that it's yeah, I don't know if I see it beating, but it does be, like you said, it's beat special effects because everyone was included versus just being Scooby and just being shaggy. I'd say it would be uh in between those two.
SPEAKER_00I think so too.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Okay.
SPEAKER_00All right.
SPEAKER_01The trick trap. That's a that's an awesome name. Thank you, Shaggy, for making that he's an expert trap gamer.
SPEAKER_00All right.
SPEAKER_01Definitely a good one. All right.
SPEAKER_00So then that brings us to the manifest of monsters.
SPEAKER_01Alright.
SPEAKER_00At 21, we have Frankenstein's monster.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he's not very good.
SPEAKER_00At 20, we have the ape-man.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_0019, we've got the fortune teller. Fortune teller. 18 is the Vasquez Castle Ghost. Yep. 17 is the witch. The witch. 16 is the Black Knight. 15 is the mummy. 14 is the Minor 49er. Yep. 13 is the Indian Witch Doctor.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00Twelve is Captain Cutler.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00Eleven is the Werewolf.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00Ten is Charlie the Robot.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00Nine is the Ghost Clown. Eight is Redbeard the Pirate.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00Seven is the Cloaked Cavalier. Also known as Pietro the Puppet Master. Yep. Six is the Franken Castle vampire. Yep. Five is the Spooky Space Kook. Yep. Which surprisingly is never called that in his episode. Right. He's just called it. He's just called it. Like his name, Space Kook, literally comes from the title of the episode.
SPEAKER_01Right. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I always found that interesting.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00Four is the zombie.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00Three is the snow ghost. Who can turn you into a ghost.
SPEAKER_01Just let Scooby turn you into a ghost. You'll be fine.
SPEAKER_00Number two is the ghost of Elias, Elias Kingston. Yep. Who'll just turn you old and not into a ghost.
SPEAKER_01He'll just turn you old.
SPEAKER_00And so far the best ghosts have been the Phantom Shadows. Yep, nothing. Who will just put dummy ewes into coffins.
SPEAKER_01Right. Yep. He'll grab you all off screen.
SPEAKER_00Alright, so where would we put the ghost of Hyde?
SPEAKER_01Oh, I mean, he's almost up in the top five. Because he grabbed Shaggy so unhinged like that and pulls him out. I mean, he's gotta be in the top five.
SPEAKER_00I mean, in terms of ghosts that have like caught them, like, that alone already puts him above Space Kook.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00Because like every ghost that's been above Space Scoop, Space Kook has been one that's grabbed one or more members.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00Yep. Essentially on screen.
SPEAKER_01On screen.
SPEAKER_00Right. Yep. So is he better than the zombie?
SPEAKER_01I almost think he is better than the I mean, I don't know what you think, but I think he might be better than the zombie.
SPEAKER_00Design-wise, I I think I think design-wise probably better than zombie.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00He does have a nice design to it.
SPEAKER_01He does have a nice design.
SPEAKER_00Do we think he's better than Snow Ghost?
SPEAKER_01I don't know about that. I mean, I don't know what That's a tough one. I mean.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I don't know what you are. Um. I almost think.
SPEAKER_01Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_00Snowghost design is pretty good.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00I'd say between Snow Ghost and Zombie.
SPEAKER_01Alright.
SPEAKER_00Mostly because zombie's a henchman.
SPEAKER_01Right. Yeah, that's why he bumps him out because he's. Uh-huh. Alright, we added a new one.
SPEAKER_00Alright, he's no, he's at number four.
SPEAKER_01Yep, he's number four.
SPEAKER_00That's pretty good showing.
SPEAKER_01That is pretty good showing. You got that right.
SPEAKER_00I think all that's left here for us is we need to find out how many snacks this episode brings to our table of snacks.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's probably a pretty good one this time with adding the music to it.
SPEAKER_00Honestly, I think if we want to get super, super technical, oh man. This does hit every single thing you think of when you think of an episode of Scooby-Doo.
SPEAKER_01It definitely does.
SPEAKER_00Granted, the mystery machine isn't broken down in the way.
SPEAKER_01The heater is broken. It is. So that brings some of it in. No, like it's like Yeah.
SPEAKER_00The breakdown of the mystery machine is the fact the heater is not working. Right. So it's not what you you know, it's not breaking down in the way you think it's breaking down.
SPEAKER_01Right, but it's still breaking down because the heater is. There's still that addition in it, too.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So you got your chase scene, you got your hallway scene.
SPEAKER_00I kind of do want to give this a five.
SPEAKER_01Alright, let's give it a first five. Well, technically first five, a first five with a musical number.
SPEAKER_00You know, it's the first it's the first five of season two.
SPEAKER_01First five. There will be more, there will be more fives to come, I think. With how much more elaborate, you know, these ones are. Yes. You know, so how much better these ones are, you know.
SPEAKER_00So yeah. And I, you know, and I think this might be. Boy, this is what. Did we give a five to the snow ghost episode?
SPEAKER_01I think we got gave it like a four.
SPEAKER_00I'd have to look at the next one.
SPEAKER_01Like a four point five or whatever. I don't think we gave it a five because it didn't have But I don't like I don't think we gave it a five.
SPEAKER_00This is what, almost like the third five in within the last couple of weeks, because I think A Night of Fright got five. I think Space Cook got five. Right, yeah.
SPEAKER_01That's because that was your episode.
SPEAKER_00I mean that Space Kook is a pretty good episode.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's a pretty good episode. I am.
SPEAKER_00That is one of those episodes where it's like, yeah, if you've never seen Scooby before, like this is a good perfect episode to watch.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Which ultimately is what I think a five should strive to be.
SPEAKER_01Right. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00This is definitely one that's like, yeah, I would point you towards this episode. Right. Um, so yeah, nice solid five.
SPEAKER_01I agree, nice solid five. Okay.
SPEAKER_00And I think that just about brings us to the end of the mystery. I think it does. You know, because uh we caught the ghost of Hyde.
SPEAKER_01We did, who wasn't Helga the Maid. That's surprised. Velma was wrong.
SPEAKER_00I know, like how could she How do we not talk about this more?
SPEAKER_01Like Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_00How did we not think of this before? She's wrong, guys. And what's even more surprising, like Fred and Daphne were shocked when Velma suggested of looking in Helga's room and they'd find more clues there. Right. So did they not suspect Helga? I don't think they did. So what are you doing, Velma? Yeah, what are you doing, Velma? Is this why you were kicked out in the 80s? Maybe that's why. Alright. Anyway, that about wraps up this mystery. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I guess it does.
SPEAKER_00So we'll be back next week. We will Mystery Mask mix up. Oh, that's gonna be a fun one.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna love that one. That's gonna be a really fun one to do. We're gonna have so much fun with that episode. That one's gonna probably definitely be a five.
SPEAKER_00So until then, you guys, just remember they would have gotten away with it too. If it weren't for those meddling kids.
